The Israeli system of public health can be proud of an amount of loud medical victories, inventions, medical establishments with their special atmosphere, where traditions and innovations are combined and doctors whose profession became their life mission.

The list of medical centers and hospitals of Israel impresses not only with its size, but also with significance of each of them. One of the best among them all is reputed Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem. This is the fact and this fact is proved by numerous public opinion polls and gained rewards.

History of Hadassah Hospital: serving people more than a century

Modern medical complex Hadassah is one of the biggest in Israel. Already for decades hundreds of highly qualified professionals in different spheres work here and the best equipment is used.

However, everything started much more decently. At the beginning there were two nurses working in a country, called Palestine, who were commissioned by women’s Zionist organization Hadassah.  In 1913 they opened a little station for a medical public help.

Further history is full of bright and  great events: establishment of hospitals in Palestine, organizing nurse courses, opening of mother and child Center, Center of tuberculosis treatment and many others. Most of  the hospitals opened under Hadassah supervision were descended to dispose of municipal officials. Organization left just two campuses to its own control:

●    Hadassah Har ha-Tsofim on mount Scopus,
●    Hadassah Ein Carem in Jerusalem

Those two campuses already at the beginning of 2000 years represented 22 buildings which included 1 100 hospital beds and 31 operating rooms. The Center functioning (activity) is regularly highlighted in Media and more than for 10 years patients from abroad are treated here. Now, when seeing all those numbers it is hard to believe that everything started from a station, where only two nurses worked.

Though, all these great changes didn’t influence basics and principals formed more than a century ago: “Everyone in Hadassah clinic works for the welfare of all nations, here are no racial or religious differs”.
