Heart Treatment in Israel

Cardiovascular diseases are the main factor of death in the Western World, and they represent a challenge for diagnosis, treatment and research.
The cardiology experts at The Hadassah Medical Center are dedicated to overcome this medical challenge and are always prepared to provide patients with the most accurate diagnosis and professional manner of treatment.
In addition to quality care, cardiologists at Hadassah are also involved in:

  •      Offering the most innovative and advanced techniques of diagnostics and treatment;
  •      Teaching and numerous multidisciplinary and widely varied researches;
  •      Providing the proper advanced setting and trained personnel for investigation of possible solutions;
  •      Offering the most modern technology and with state-of-the-art medical equipment;
  •      Conducting medical trials to study the safety and efficacy of new developments in cardiac treatment;
  •      Assuring safety and efficacy of products and techniques.

The pursuit of excellence characterizing the work carried out by cardiologists at the Hadassah Medical Center has resulted in significantly reducing the rates of mortality from cardiovascular diseases thus placing the center at the forefront for diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases.

Cardiac Procedures and Surgeries
From diagnostics to rehabilitation, Hadassah uses the most innovative and effective procedures in every stage of cardiovascular diseases treatment, excelling in non-invasive surgical interventions.

 Aortic valve Replacement
Blood flows out of the heart into the aorta through a valve called the aortic valve. It opens up so blood can flow out. It then closes, keeping blood from flowing backwards. When this valve does not function properly it may cause disorders such as regurgitation (an aortic valve that does not close all the way allows blood to leak back into the heart) or aortic stenosis (an aortic valve that does not open fully will restrict blood flow).
Such cases require surgical replacement of the aortic valve.
The most common option to treat this disorder is open heart surgery  which is any surgery where the chest is opened and surgery is performed on the heart muscle, valves, arteries, or other parts of the heart (such as the aorta). The term “open” means that the chest is “cut” open.
In open surgery, the surgeon makes a large cut in the breastbone to reach the heart and aorta. Although this procedure saved many people’s lives, along with the benefits it implies general anesthesia, a 10-inch-long cut in the middle of the chest to separate the breastbone to be able to see the heart and aorta (the main blood vessel leading from the heart to the rest of the body). Most people are connected to a heart-lung bypass machine or bypass pump.
At the Hadassah Medical Center Israeli cardiosurgeons offer an advanced alternative to this complicated and risky surgery: replacement of the aortic valve using minimally invasive endovascular methods, such as TAVI technique ( transcatheter aortic valve implantation) . This approach does not require opening the chest since only a small cut and a tiny hole in the vein are sufficient. An artificial valve that leads to the heart is introduced through the tiny hole with the help of a microscopic catheter thus replacing the affected valve.

The advantages of such an approach are obvious:

  •     Surgery lasts for about 30 minutes;
  •     Significantly reduced risks of complications;
  •     Significantly reduces the period of rehabilitation – patient recovery takes a maximum of 3-5 days;
  •     Period of rehabilitation lasts without painful sensations as opposed to the open heart surgery.

This procedure requires the most advanced and modern operation rooms and equipment as well as the best professional and highly-skilled cardiologists and dedicated nurses, all of whom specialize in treatment of urgent heart problems.
Minimally invasive replacement of aortic valve is being successfully performed in the U.S.A., Israel and some European countries.
Israel offers medical excellence and professionalism at an affordable and competitive price in comparison to other countries thus becoming a leader in medical tourism and attracting more and more patients from around the world who choose Israel and the Hadassah Medical Center as the their favorite destination for the treatment of  their heart problems.

Searing adrenal to lower blood pressure
Hypertension is one of the most widespread diseases of our time. Due to hypertension diseases more than 7,5 ml people turn for medical help every year.

Some people suffer from a drug-resistant form of hypertension and do not respond to medications. In these cases, even the administration of a combination of several antihypertensive drugs does not ensure a sustainable pharmacological effect. Complications of this medical condition may lead to heart attacks and strokes.

To overcome this complex medical condition, the Hadassah Medical Center has initiated an innovative treatment based on a method that has proved its efficiency in 1950. In the past, this method proved to be problematic since it required open surgery. Recently, the method has been re-adapted, now with the use of a catheter introduced through the femoral artery towards the adrenal [suprarenal] glands. Then the sympathetic ends are burnt with a laser beam.

The principles of this method are:

  •     Oppression of the centers of the sympathetic part of the vegetative nervous system;
  •     Blockade of the sympathetic innervation.

Statistics indicate an optimistic trend: the patients who have undergone this procedure, showed significant improvement in their medical condition and even though this occurs gradually in a period of 2-3 months, they fully returned to active life.

The minimally invasive replacement of aortic valve and searing adrenal to lower blood pressure are only a few examples of the Hadassah Medical Center’s cardiologists.

Due to their novelty these procedures are being performed in only a few clinics in Israel and Europe.
As an official representative of the Hadassah Medical Center, IMTA group is one of a few medical tourism companies that enable foreign patients to regain their health and benefit from these innovative methods.
